For starters this event happened on a special day, my birthday, so my husband, Robert, planned an evening I would never forget. Of course, we went to one of our favorite casinos, The Orleans. The Mardi Gras décor with its Gators and masked faces brings the heart of New Orleans ambiance to Vegas, and who can resist the Cajun dishes, yum! What I love about the Orleans is that it has a friendly atmosphere and plenty of parking. The arena is huge, but has great views no matter where you sit, especially with the two huge monitors on either side of the stage. There is so much to do at the Orleans between the theater, showroom, and the arena. I have been there for many events, so I can say it was the perfect choice for my birthday.
The night began when the Limo from Limousines of Nevada arrived to pick us up. Our driver, Jesse, opened the door and what a spectacular sight. I sank into the soft leather seats and took in the elegance of the interior. Jesse poured us a drink while he explained what was available in the bar which included chilled glasses. The lights along the bar changed colors and there was a neon display on the ceiling making it a very romantic start of the evening. Jesse drove us down the strip and made it to The Orleans on time for our dinner reservations. What a great limo service. Jesse was prompt, friendly, and had a great sense of humor. I would recommend asking for Jesse when you are ordering limo service.
So far I have not been disappointed with any of the restaurants in The Orleans, but I have to say that The Prime Rib Loft was exceptional. The jazzy décor, mood lighting, cloth covered tables, and candle accents was very inviting. We were greeted by a friendly staff and seated swiftly-they take reservations. Our server, Irina, was very attentive to our needs, so she took very good care of us. We chose the shaved onion as an appetizer with its honey-mustard dip, but being considerate Irina added a ranch dip because she thought we would like a couple of options. The onions were perfectly fried and the crunch complimented the sweet flavor of the onions. Can you be excited about a salad? I say, yes. The salads were uniquely served on a chilled plate with each item arranged neatly giving me the option of mixing it up for a little dinner fun. Each item in the salad was fresh, crisp, with a very tasty dressing. I ordered the English-cute prime rib that was so tender I could almost cut it with my fork. Robert ordered the Cajun prime rib which melted in my mouth. It had the tantalizing flavor of prime rib, but with a kick. We both had the mashed potato which complimented the prime rib perfectly. The garlic gravy is to die for. Overall, the service was stupendous and the food was superb. Oh, by the way, the prices were reasonable, so The Prime Rib Loft is the way to go.
The concert began with Joe Cocker who is still singing with that legendary, sexy, raspy voice he is famous for. Dressed in classic black, Joe belted out the harmony he is well-known for in songs like “You Are So Beautiful,” “Chain of Fools,” “Cry Me a River,” and “With a Little Help from my Friends.” He is truly a rock star who has had hit records in the 1960’s, 70’s, 80’s, and 90’s. With all the success and popularity, he is still a very humble man who takes pride in his community in Colorado. The Cocker Kids Foundation is set up to help youth-based programs, so Joe Cocker is not just a rocker, but a man with heart. On his website he was asked if he was going to stop touring and his response was “As long as being on stage is fun,” says Joe, “as long as I enjoy that part and still get a buzz out of performing. Then I’ll keep going out there.” With that, I recommend you check out the tour dates and times because Joe Cocker is one voice you don’t want to miss live.
“I’m a joker, smoker, a midnight toker” are famous lyrics from one of the most famous bands, The Steve Miller Band. When Steve and his band hit the stage, the screaming began with the opening song and into the night with “Dance, Dance, Dance.” He captured the audience with not only the music, but with his light-hearted stories. The best one was about his Guitar (Sitar) that he bought for $125.00 in 1965 which has 19 strings, so he can make those famous eclectic sounds in songs like “Abracadabra,” “Fly Like an Eagle,” The Joker,” “Jungle Love,” “Swingtown,” and “Jet Airliner.” Steve played the songs that made the Steve Miller Band famous, but he also introduced a new member of the band, Sonny Charles, who has brought his blues sound to the group. They are in the process of recording a new album coming out in September. Between singing sets, there was dueling harmonicas, Sax solos, and hot and heavy guitar strumming. The Steve Miller Band is still making music and filling arenas to its capacity. Don’t forget to watch for the band’s new album out in September named “Loose Tether.”
