The legendary, Carlos Santana, stepped onto the stage with his classical and electric guitars strapped on ready to weave a musical story. The notes of the guitar were sexy and sensual like the movement of two bodies playful and full of adventure; wanting and yearning for more and then a climactic moment of musical talent beyond imagination. He is able to speak to your soul with his monumentally powerful depth and range of sounds.

This is the launch of his Vegas residency where he is showcasing his legendary talent at the Joint @ Hard Rock Hotel & Casino. The grand opening was on May 27th and will have as many as 36 performances through 2010. The Supernatural Santana is a journey of songs that feature the bands best hits like “Europa” which has such a rhythmic ecstasy of its own. Santana played “Smooth” and “Maria Maria” which had everyone working those Latin moves. “Jingo” was first released in 1969, but still a hot hitting chart smashing dancing sensation. As we danced with each hit, the doves came on the big screen which brought a religious element to the concert where Santana gave the audience words of wisdom about acceptance and the love of humanity. With each accolade was a wave of applaud since Santana is able to use music as a universal language bringing the whole audience into one harmonious group.

The only negative side to the concert was the seating and price of beers. Each beer was $7.00 and if you weighed more than 90 pounds or taller than 5 foot then you were a bit cramped. The claim is to be able to fit 4,000 people and makes sense if all those on the floor were standing, but the chairs were really close together. The prices of the tickets were a bit high for the cramped seating arrangement especially with Latin dancing which is not a scaled down type of dance.” We had a hard time staying in the small space given to us.

Santana was still worth every moment since it was a time where we could experience sensational musical talent that is beyond comprehension. Kudos to Andy Vargas and Tony Lindsay on vocals that made the songs sound like the hits on the radio. All of Santana’s band members are successful outside of the band which reveals how influential Carlos Santana is a musical advocate and mentor.
