I have read and studied what Bonhoeffer did and as inspirational as looking at it historically it is eye opening to see inside the life of the man. His family, his friends, his influences, and his passion for God. I read other reviews and no it is not an action packed war movie. It is just a hint of the man personally. I was introduced to Bonhoeffer when I read "Letter to the American Church." In the film, I was able to envision his inner fire to speak truth against the wicked to the point that he was willing to give his life fighting for the lives of German Jews. Today, the church is in the same battle today. The film is about how he made it clear that the German church should be living out their faith in all the spheres of their lives so that all of society is blessed.
His words: "silence in the face of evil is itself evil: God will not hold us guiltless. Not to speak is to speak. Not to act is to act."
This moral dilemma is the heart of this movie and in the legacy of Bonhoeffer is his warnings all churches.
How does the warning apply to today's churches?
